I can has pictures nao? D bought us a camera! Has anyone ever used a Kodak EasyShare Z1275? I'm liking it so far, and plan on pestering the animals and wandering around outside, to see how it works. Expect photo-spammage. Maybe even a photo of me in my birthday dress (yes dress, not suit! *g*) since we didn't get any that night.

D has been working on trying to get the AC in his car fixed. We went and ran around town after we saw Hancock and I was so danged hot I was almost sick by the time we got home. I don't know how he does it every day, although I will admit that he's built for the heat - tall and skinny. I, on the other hand, am built to swim the North Sea. (What's that old phrase? It's the difference between a waterbed and an army cot? Use me for shade in the summer and heat in the winter? You get the idea.)

Hancock was a good-ish movie, but it was like they had two ideas and squished them together to make one movie. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't what I expected from the trailers. I just want to state something for the record. I'm coming to the conclusion that I'm basically straight, but for Charlize Theron? OMG! That woman is so beautiful, she's almost not real.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and they had iced coffee at the theater and I drank one and now I'm bouncing off the ceiling. Caffeine and sugar (which I hardly ever have) and I'm probably not sleeping until tomorrow! :-)

My MiL went out to look at some things in stores that are not *here*, so I stripped down and I'm sitting here nekkid. I haven't been nekkid anywhere except the bathroom in 3 weeks! I might go out to the kitchen and get a glass of water nekkid, JUST BECAUSE I CAN.

It takes so little to make me happy, doesn't it? :-)

I can't wait for July 15th. I know I'm probably the last person to hear about this, but Joss Whedon's 'Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog' just looks like too much fun. I'll admit it - I'm one of those folks who loved 'Once More, With Feeling' and Shay, Cassie and I frequently watched it and sang along with everyone. :-)

Today? I can has Hancock, please? Other than a morning trip to a den of iniquity, we didn't do much of anything. This will be D's last full weekend off for awhile, so we're relaxing and enjoying it. I do want to get some steaks and let him do the manly manly grilling thing, too.

Hey, waking up in the middle of the night does have *one* advantage. I've got the #3 high score for the day on boomshine. 280 points, which also happens to be a person high score for me, too. (It takes so little to make me happy *g*).

I don't know why I'm awake, I just am. I'll probably grab a glass of water and try to read for a bit until I get sleepy again.

I think D and I are going to cook out today, since it's going to be sunny and hot (huh, figure that. Sunny and hot in Texas in July. I think our weathermen could take a few months off in the summer most years and we wouldn't miss them). Steaks, my special potato salad, some grilled veggies, etc. Means a trip to the store, but what the heck - they won't be busy today, will they. ;-)

I'm so glad that tomorrow is D's Friday this week. He's coming home so darned tired that he can barely stay awake to eat dinner. Honey? Wake me up if you want. I'll take you to Temple and pick you up tomorrow, so you can rest a bit. I think we might get away for a bit over the weekend. Just some time away from the house - maybe to Austin. Anyone interested in having lunch sometime, or a beer or whatever?

Having his mom here hasn't been as stressful as I was afraid it would be (thank goodness), and I really like my MIL, but it's put one hell of a cramp on the old sex life. I haven't had to stuff a pillow in my mouth in almost a year and I'm not liking it. (Sorry. TMI?) *g*

I know I'm going to drag him to see 'Hancock' this weekend at some point, because I *really* want to see it. Next week I might have to do movies by myself (or wait until Sunday, because if I go see 'Hellboy 2' without him he's strangle me in my sleep or something). ::sigh:: Oh crap, that won't work. He's working Friday and Saturday and then we're moving his mom into her apartment on Sunday next week.

Hmmm, must plot.

Okay - here goes. I'm Missy, and I love shoes. I've tried to deny for years the pull that footwear has on me, but I just can't fight it any more. I must give in, and accept that although society (i.e. - David) may not understand our love, it is a deep and abiding one.

Today's schedule is house-worky type stuff. I need to do laundry, I have a big old pot roast going in the crockpot, I need to vacuum although I'm not sure if I'll get to that or not. A shower is the first thing on the agenda. I wore hairspray over teh weekend, and I hate what it does to my hair/scalp. Itch, itch, itch.

Amazingly enough, 44 doesn't feel a bit different from 43. *g*

I still want to see Wanted, but I'd like to hear from anyone who has seen it, and get your opinions. I think it looks like a fun shoot-em-up type of movie but I've been wrong before. I *will* go see Hancock this weekend, unless D has to work. I love Will Smith and his July 4 movies. And Hellboy 2 is coming up soon! YAY! (major crush on Ron Perlman, what can I say?)

This was a pretty good weekend, after all. We didn't do much of anything yesterday except lay around the house and sleep off and on. We did end up going to the bar and meeting up with some friends, but then D came home. Candy and I ran over to another bar (and it rained. In June, in Texas! It was amazing. *g*) Anyway, D came back out later and had some drinks with a bunch of us that ended up at the second bar. It was fun and too many people bought me too many shots of Jose Gold.

Today, we went to breakfast, to the library and went grocery shopping. Again, nothing too exciting but it was a good day.

Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes, and Ace for the crown and e-card. I really appreciated those. Susie? I got the card you sent and keep giggling when I think about 'my bad self'. *hugs*

We ordered pizza from Dominos last night. Good pizza, but the coolest thing was their new pizza tracker. You can watch online and see where your pizza is in process, from build to bake to deliver. I"m such a geek, because I sat here and watched it. :-)

Flashback to 1985...

I was at my sisters house, with my mom, dad and baby sister Sam, and all of Connie's family. I was a week over-due with my first baby and didn't think I was ever going to deliver.

My husband (at the time) had dropped me off over there before he went to work, because Connie was my lamaze coach and so I could spend as much time with my folks as possible, since they were on their way from Minnesota to Texas, for Sam to go to school. I was as big as a house, and spent most of my time lounging around like a beached whale.

Hmmm, something weird is happening. I'd had false labor pains for about 2 weeks, but these weren't going away. I told my sister, and we started timing them just for grins. Once they were staying steady, and proceeding a bit, we called the doctor and then - away to the hospital.

Checked in, up to maternity and into the fashionable gown and IV. Connie was so excited, because she'd just had her last baby less than a year ago, and had never seen one be born (without getting the pain along with it). We played cards, talked, and kept calling the 'rents to let them know that not a lot had happened yet. I had a labor nurse with the biggest hands on earth, I swear!

Finally, things started moving along and I realized that lamaze worked! :-) This was in the days prior to everyone and their sister getting an epidural, so they gave me Demerol to get me through the pain. Connie said that I was 'interesting' on the drugs. Checked, re-checked and checked again, and finally it was time to have a baby. We didn't know what we were having but at that time, I didn't care, as long as the lump was healthy and had all the requisite parts and pieces.

9:06 pm, and the doctor presented me with a beautiful, screaming baby girl. Connie and I both cried, and then she went out to the waiting room to find my hubby and call everyone to let them know that they were grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins, etc.

Shay was 8 pounds 12 ounces and 21 1/2 inches long. She had the same little curl in the top of her ear that her daddy had, she had 2 milk teeth and nursed like there was no tomorrow. 3 days later we came home from the hospital and I began a life of loving and protecting her. She and her sister are the best things I've ever done in my life, and I was so honored to have been her mom.

BTW, I think every new mom should come home with a 5 year prescription for Demerol. :-)

ETA: My folks came to see me the next day as soon as visiting hours started. I had a lot of petichia because I'd pushed for so long and broken blood vessels in my face, plus I still had the wobbly belly. My little sister looked at me and swore she was never having kids, if that was what happened to you. :-)

My mom scrubbed like she was prepping for surgery, and held Shay almost the whole time she was there. She carried her newest grandbaby over to my dad and said 'Isn't she beautiful, Sam?'. My dads response was to ask him again in 18 years. On her 18th birthday, she called my dad and asked him if she was beautiful now. She was. *g*

And this might be part of the reason I'm so emotional right now. Tomorrow would have been Shay's 23rd birthday. I had her less than 3 hours before I turned 21; I remember the doctor asking if I wanted him to put off the delivery so I could have a birthday baby. (My answer was no, in case any of you wondered *g*).

God, I miss her. It's getting easier to remember the good times, or even the bad times with less pain. That's a good thing, but the big days (birthdays, holidays, the day of her death) will always be more stressful. Unfortunately, there are people on my flist who understand that. :-(

I know some of you are new to the story, so here's the quick rundown.

Shay was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia when she was 4 1/2, on December 10, 1989. She went through her treatments and was leukemia free for quite a while. It came back in February 1998, and she went through more treatments. Another relapse in 2001 and she had a bone marrow transplant, with her sister as the donor. 2004 and it was back again. This time she had a stem cell transplant, again using Cassie as 'spare parts' (her words, not mine). That lasted until she relapsed yet again in January 2005. At that point, all the onco's could do was put her back on chemo and hope for the best. She did amazingly well until November 2006, when she relapsed for the last time. We went to Ohio in December to visit family, and that is where she developed the infection that killed her. If you're interested in reading some of the most giving, loving responses to posts ever, start in my journal at December 16, and go through the 21st.

She was such an amazing kid, and the world's less bright without her in it. Plus, with Cassie in Houston this year, I'm feeling pretty lonely. I don't know if I'll be Posty McPosterson tomorrow, trying to distract myself, or if I'll see y'all on Sunday.

I'm upset with my hubby. Ever since his mom moved in here, I'm the one who's been taking care of things; cooking, cleaning, etc. I'm also stuck entertaining her. I know she doesn't *need* entertained, but she's a guest here, I feel like I have to spend time with her. D comes home from work and pops out long enough to get his plate and then he disappears into his room again. No sitting down and talking, no just spending time watching some television with us. Nothing.

I seriously don't see him unless he's hungry or horny. I know he's working a lot and I know it's hot outside, but damn it I shouldn't be the one who has to make all the effort. Last night I went in to his bedroom to talk to him, and after I was there a minute or two, he informed me that he was going to sleep. Felt like 'Don't let the door hit you in the ass'.

I mentioned that there are some things that I would like to do this weekend. Sent him an email, let him know that I wanted to go to the farmers market in the morning, and then I really did want to see 'Wanted'. Folks want to have a birthday party for me tomorrow night, too. When I asked him if he'd read the email, his response was 'What now?', said in that tone of voice that means I was on his last nerve and I'd better get to stepping. His response to the email? 'Yeah fine'.

I know I'm being too sensitive and I need to just not worry about any of this stuff, but it hurts. I'm tired of not having my house (and please, don't tell me that it's half over because I know that, but it's not helping with *now*), I'm tired of feeling so damned alone. I'm tired of feeling like I just don't matter.

Hell, I guess I just needed to vent. He's right, I don't need to do anything special this weekend.

The three-things meme. You know, you list three things that you've done and find out if anyone else on your flist has done the same thing, or if you're unique - just like everyone else. ;-)

1. I had surgery at 5 days old, and was one of the first survivors in Ohio. I had pyloric stenosis.
2. I've spent *months* locked up in a single hospital room with my daughter, and we still liked one another when we came out.
3. I have a few physical abnormalities - my little fingers on both hands are crooked at the joint nearest the nail, and lay over my ring fingers when my hands are held flat and I can wiggle the toes on my right foot sideways, independent of the big toe

Bonus #4 - Take your pick. I learned how to drive on a tractor; I lived with an outhouse in Upper MInnesota for a year in 1977; I married my first husband after knowing him 15 days.

You will not believe what happened today.

Sparky has been running loose (again), so we fed him (again) and put him in the back yard (again). His collar was so tight that he could hardly swallow, so I took the damned thing off of him before he was put out with Mongo. D made sure he couldn't get out of the yard, and all was good for a few days.

Today, I heard Sparky barking from the yard next door. Yup, they'd moved D's blockade and taken the dog (again). Okay, so next time he's running around hot, tired, thirsty and hungry I'll chuck him in the back yard, thinks I.

Then the doorbell rings. And rings and rings and rings. Someone is on the front porch just mashing the damned thing, so I answer the door. It is the little girl from next door, with a bowl in her hand. She asks me if I have any dog food. Yes, says I. Why?

Because we don't have any.

Uhm, no. You don't take care of your dog, so I try to but you take him back and can't. feed. him? I don't think so! I told her no, that they would have to get some of their own. I shut the door and she stood on the porch for a good 30 seconds, looking over at her mom (I'm assuming - I didn't look).

Yeesh.

2 1/2 weeks left. I just keep repeating it ~ 2 1/2 weeks left. I can't find *anything* in my kitchen. Well, eventually I find it, but it takes some looking. I know I'm just edgy because I hurt so darned much but still... Oh well, I'll just put the radio back on the counter while I do dishes. She's probably going to start being out of the house for at least a few days a week, starting next week; she'll be helping sit with a woman who is coming out of the nursing home after breaking her hip. I'm really not bitching... I'm not.

I want to see 'Wanted' this weekend, so I'm hoping that D and I can get out and go see it, maybe Friday. Poor guy is just so darned beat when he gets home.

I have a friend who is *addicted* to Deal or No Deal. Well, here's the foodie version. :-)

Teeth are still problematic, but if I throw enough analgesics at them, I can sleep for a couple of hours. Yay for sleep. :-) MiL is cooking supper tonight, so I don't even have to worry about that, and I'll be able to just zip through the dishes when she and D are done eating. She is making rice, so I might try some of that tonight.

Touching 100 today. Urgh.

Let's see - something good, because I've been complaining so darned much lately. I reconnected with old friends, I'm (probably) going to make it to another birthday, my cats love me. I've got some good books from the library, the weather is sunny and beautiful and all the analgesics for the mouth are making the rest of the aches and pains go away, too. :-)
