After talking it over with the hubby, he decided to buy me a new computer! (No, not because of the virus - that would be silly. *g*)
He's going to use his current one for his weather stuff, strictly, and take my old one (once it's cleaned up) for web browsing and such. I get the new one because I'm on much more than he is, plus my gaming stuff.
YAY!
Now to figure out how to kill the virus on the old one. :-)
the simplest, and probably most effective - but unquestionably the most drastic - way to get rid of the virus is to simply format all hard drives - wipe everything completely - and then reinstall an old but valid copy of Windows. this will allow him to set the machine up exactly the way he wants it, too.
